In the previous blog we read about what exactly Human Resource means. Considering the jokes on the HR department on how non-important their existence is in a company, it will be only befitting that I (an HR professional) write about all the work HR department do in order to ensure smooth running of any company.

So let's dig into it -

Human Resources (HR) is an essential department in any company that deals with people. HR is responsible for managing the workforce and ensuring that employees have the support and resources they need to perform their jobs effectively. The HR department plays a critical role in keeping the company running smoothly and efficiently. In this blog, we will discuss how the HR department is useful for the company.

Recruitment and Selection

The HR department is responsible for recruiting and selecting new employees for the company. They identify the skills, knowledge, and experience needed for each role and develop job descriptions and person specifications. They advertise the vacancies, screen resumes, conduct interviews, and select the most suitable candidates for the job. This process ensures that the company attracts and retains the best talent, which is vital for the success of any organization.

Onboarding and Training

The HR department is responsible for the onboarding and training of new employees. They provide them with the information, resources, and support they need to get started in their new role. They also offer ongoing training and development opportunities to help employees improve their skills and knowledge. This process ensures that employees are equipped with the tools they need to perform their jobs effectively.

Employee Relations

The HR department is responsible for managing employee relations. They deal with issues such as workplace conflict, grievances, and disciplinary procedures. They also provide support to employees who are experiencing personal or work-related problems. This process ensures that the company maintains a positive and productive work environment.

Performance Management

The HR department is responsible for managing employee performance. They set performance targets, conduct performance appraisals, and provide feedback to employees on their performance. They also develop performance improvement plans to help employees achieve their targets. This process ensures that employees are motivated to perform at their best and that the company achieves its goals.

Compliance with Employment Laws and Regulations

The HR department is responsible for ensuring that the company complies with employment laws and regulations. They monitor changes in legislation, update policies and procedures, and provide guidance to managers and employees on their legal obligations. This process ensures that the company avoids legal issues and maintains a good reputation.

In conclusion, the HR department is a crucial function within any company. They are responsible for recruiting and selecting new employees, onboarding and training, managing employee relations, performance management, and compliance with employment laws and regulations. By having an efficient and effective HR department, companies can attract and retain the best talent, maintain a positive and productive work environment, and achieve their goals.
